Our Story

Eho Earth, meaning ‘This Earth’, refers to a place that is a sanctuary of serenity. It whispers a slow and sustainable rhythm, guiding us to cherish each moment and nurture our connection with the natural world.

Eho Earth, launched as a clothing brand in 2023 by Sayani Khamrai, believes in working with the natural and purest fabrics and hand-weaving processes. Eho Earth focuses on telling stories through its products, reflecting the journey and people involved. We make clothing and accessories for women with a design philosophy that draws inspiration from Indian culture and traditions, embracing a more inclusive, global perspective.

India is renowned for its diverse handwoven fabrics, each reflecting a distinct fusion of styles, colours, textures, and regional flair.

As a Bengali, I was surrounded by the vibrant textiles and folk traditions of my heritage. My innate curiosity about diverse cultures and crafts naturally gravitated towards textiles, and this initial fascination became the catalyst that eventually led me into the world of fashion.

Raised in Mumbai, a bustling metropolis teeming with cultural diversity and fusion, further fueled my creative spirit. Inspired by the city’s dynamic energy and its eclectic mix of influences, I envisioned a brand that would focus on simple yet elevated everyday designs.

“Eho Earth is a fusion of personal experiences, cultural heritage, and a dedication to quality craftsmanship, all rooted in the diverse landscapes and histories of India’s cities and regions.”

We work with pure Indian Mulberry silks and Mul Cottons, handwoven in Bengal. We have our own set of weavers in Murshidabad, Phulia, and Bishnupur. The past year has witnessed the joyous employment of 12 weavers and 3 block printing artisans, and we aim to preserve the traditional techniques and learn different design languages from traditions across the world.

Hello, I am Sayani Khamrai, a passionate textile artist and the Founder and Creative Director of Eho Earth.

By degree, I am a polymer technologist and an alumnus of UDCT, Mumbai. Though I had a wonderful career in a few of India’s most noted industries, the melody of whispering looms in Gram Bangla stirred a profound calling within me, and I knew I wanted to work with textiles.

But the question remained: should the brand be trend-driven or inspired by natural design and pure materials? After a deep conversation with my inner self, ultimately, in March 2023, I launched Eho Earth. It is not trend-led and never will be.

My grandfather, a Fine Arts graduate from Kala Bhavana, Shantiniketan, is central to my inspiration and has carved my creativity. Fond memories of crafting shibori and batik patterns on silks with Dadubhai under the Bengal sun shaped Eho Earth’s ethos and have influenced me to celebrate the rich and diverse textile heritage that reflects the country’s unique cultural identity.

“Eho Earth’s designs, primal and pure, resonate with a soul that seeks the extraordinary in the ordinary.”
